Lasers and Intense Pulsed light have become a more common and established treatment for unwanted hair, since their introduction in the late 1990s, more and more men and women at some time or another have considered this as an option for a more permanent management of unwanted hair.

No more razors, waxing, or creams! No more stubble, shaving rashes or irritation! Let’s not even mention the eye wateringly painful trips to the salon for waxing every month.

Excess hair can be embarrassing and inconvenient for both women and men, effecting your self-confidence and affecting your daily activities like going to public places such as gyms or swimming pools where the skin is usually on show. It could even stop you from being able to wear your favourite clothes or trying to hide that shadow under make-up.

The problem keeps on coming back time after time after time.

Laser treatment can be even be used on sensitive areas of the skin, such as the face, alongside these other areas:

Whilst a full course of sessions will be needed for overall hair removal and significant reduction of growth, it won’t be long before you’ll notice the difference made by just one treatment.

At Skintique Clinic, we are able to treat all skin types.

People come to us with a variety of concerns and reasons for removing unwanted hair, including:

Hair growth in embarrassing areas (i.e. face, neck, hands)

Excess hair growth associated with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

Hormonal hair growth

Hair removal prior to gender reassignment procedures

Ingrown hair prevention

We always discuss your medical history during your consultation to make sure the treatment is safe for you. Some circumstances may make laser unsuitable, such as:

Pregnancy or breastfeeding

History of melanoma

Autoimmune conditions such as Lupus, Scleroderma, Vitiligo

Raised moles, suspicious lesions, keloid scar formation, healing problems, active infections, open lesions, hives, herpetic lesions, cold sores, tattoos or permanent make-up in area of treatment

During laser treatment, a diode laser beam passes through the skin towards hair follicles. The penetrating energy then heats up the root of the hair, which in turn prevents future hair growth.

First, the treatment area is fully cleansed, and a cool ultrasound gel is applied. The laser probe is applied to the skin in a series of pulses, gently treating the target area. After treatment, the ultrasound gel is cleansed away, and some soothing aloe vera is applied to minimise any discomfort.

With each treatment, there are fewer hairs to remove, so the sensation becomes smaller and smaller over time. Some people have said the sensation resembles flicking a rubber band against the skin. Any mild discomfort you may feel resolves as soon as the laser stops being applied.

There is no downtime, and you can return straight back to your normal activities. Your asler therapist will go through the aftercare with you as there are some things that should be avoided on the same day as treatment.

As with all laser hair removal methods, DiolazeXL requires a series of treatments. Laser hair removal works best when hair follicles are in their mature stage, however, at any given time, your hair is in various stages of growth.

Laser hair removal is performed by our fully-qualified aestheticians.

They will take time to explain the procedure to you, and answer any questions before starting.

First, your aesthetician will fully cleanse the treatment area, and a cool ultrasound gel is applied.

The laser probe is applied to the skin in a series of pulses, gently treating the target area.

There is a cooling feature built into the laser, which works while the treatment is being performed.

After treatment, the ultrasound gel is cleansed away, and some soothing aloe vera is applied to minimise any discomfort.

Depending on the size and location of  the area, treatment can last from a few minutes to around 20 minutes.

You can return to your normal activities immediately after treatment.

DiolazeXL can be safely used on nearly all of the areas of the body that have unwanted hair. The most commonly treated areas include: bikini, legs, arms, chest, back, shoulders, stomach, neck, chin and sideburns.

Laser treatment can be even be used on sensitive areas of the skin, such as the face. Other common areas include:

Arm and underarms

Abdomen and chest

Shoulders and back

Face (including the jaw, neck, chin and above/below the lip)

Legs

Toes & Fingers

Your skin will feel warm for 15-30 minutes after laser treatment.

There may be redness and swelling for up to 24 hours, but this usually fades away with no further issues.

We will fully discuss aftercare with you, and make sure all of your questions have been answered. Many of us prefer to have things written down as a reminder, so you will also receive a copy of the advice to take away with you. Some examples include:

Avoid using make up for 24-48 hours

Use high SPF suncream (Factor 30 and above) for 4 weeks post treatment.

Quality SPF can be purchased after treatment.

Avoid extreme sun exposure or sun beds for 3-4 weeks post treatment

Book a no-obligation consultation with an experienced practitioner. You can call us directly or request a call-back.

After taking a full medical history, your laser practitioner will discuss the treatment and your expectations with you. You will also be provided with detailed information on the procedure and the likely outcomes. Should you wish to go ahead with the treatment after a cooling-off period, another appointment will be made to begin your treatment.

On arrival for your treatment you will be asked to check over your medical history form to confirm that nothing has changed. You will be then asked to complete a treatment consent form.

After cleansing the skin and applying an ultrasound gel, the practitioner will apply a series of laser pulses across the treatment area. It involves no downtime so there is no disruption to your lifestyle and you can resume to normal activities straight after your treatment.

You will be invited back into the clinic for review of your procedure two weeks after your initial appointment, as this is how long is required for the full effect. This is to ensure you are 100% happy with your results. If required adjustments can be made during this appointment.

Before leaving the clinic, our team will arrange your next appointment in 3-4 months time.

How does Laser Hair Removal work?

Bursts of laser light at specific wavelengths penetrate along the hair below the skin surface to the root of the hair.

The Laser beam targets the dark pigment (melanin) in the hair shaft
the hair then absorbs the light energy and converts it to heat, this in turn
heats up the follicle and disables the hair growth mechanism.

Thermal damage occurs to key structures: bulb, bulge, vascular supply depending on the wavelength being used.

Hair regrowth is impeded or stopped

Laser only target hair in the anagen (growth) phase 90% of the hair is in the anagen stage at any one time hence several treatments will be required.

Understanding the Hair Growth Cycle?

Human Hair growth cycle

To understand Laser Hair Removal, you need an understanding of the Hair Growth Cycle and how that effects what we do and the reuslts that you will get.

The Hair growth cycle has three distinct growth phases.

These are known as the:

• Anagen: Active growth phase
• Catagen: Regressive phase
• Telogen: Resting phase

• The cycle for Facial Hair renews every 4 weeks
• The cycle for Body Hair renews every 6+ weeks

Of course the cycles for each hair are not synchronised, hence we recommend having multiple treatments scheduled at the correct time for optimal results.

Which skin colours can be treated?

We are able to treat all skin types including dark skin, using our Premium mixed technology Laser Hair Removal systems.

The Fitzpatrick table puts skin types into 6 different classifications.

The Fitzpatrick table measures 2 components, Genetic disposition and reaction to sun exposure.

The table tells us which Laser equipment and parameters to use for particular skin type.
