Dermal Filler Treatments

Dermal fillers are a popular and effective treatment option for reducing facial lines and wrinkles, as well as revitalising and rejuvenating the skin.

Dermal Fillers Long-lasting non-permanent treatment to restore facial volume loss

A quick, minimally invasive procedure with little downtime.

As we age we are not able to create as much hyaluronic acid or collagen as our body needs. The gradual reduction in both as well as changes in fat within the complex structure of our faces results in changes to facial volume and volume loss, decreases in hydration and elasticity as well as an increase in skin laxity. Lines and wrinkles and hollows appear as the volume is lost and jowls and superficial fat deposits appear when the underlying structure can not longer support the upper layer.

Dermal fillers are a multi-functioning treatment and can be used to reduce deep, medium and superficial lines and wrinkles, fill hollows and smooth the contours, as well as adding or restoring volume to areas of the face such as lips, cheeks and temples. The eyes are often the first place to really be affected by the signs of ageing. The tear trough is the area beneath the eye and the upper cheek, as we age  the area loses volume and the skin becomes thinner and starts to droop.

This results in the tear trough becoming deeper and darker in appearance and eye bags can start to appear.

Introduction to Dermal Filler treatment:

Dermal fillers contain an injectable form of hyaluronic acid in a clear gel. This substance occurs in the body naturally, but depletes as we age.

Dermal fillers have multiple effects. For example, they can be used to:
  • Reduce superficial, medium and deep lines or wrinkles
  • Fill hollows
  • Smooth contours
  • Add or restore volume to areas of the face such as lips, cheeks and temples.
Typical areas of treatment:
  • The eyes are often the first place to be most affected by the signs of ageing.
  • The tear trough is the area beneath the eye and the upper cheek. As we age, the area loses volume, so the skin becomes thinner and starts to droop. This results in the tear trough becoming deeper and darker in appearance, leading to eye bags.
  • The lips.

What else?

  • Safe and in compliance with European and FDA standards
  • Focused and targeted to delivery precise results.
  • There is minimal downtime/healing time or risk of complication when performed by a Health care proffessional.

The results are long-lasting, but non-permanent. Dermal fillers are naturally broken down by the body over 6-18 months, with both the fillers and their effects gradually fading away.

Dermal fillers address a wide range of concerns such as the lips, chin, jaw, cheeks, forehead and nose, and are ideal for dealing with specific issues such as loss of volume, deep lines, tear troughs, and jowls.

We discuss your full medical history at your consultation. The treatment is safe for most people, though we would ask you to postpone treatment if you were pregnant or breastfeeding. Treatment may not suitable if you are having immune therapy or undergoing cancer treatment.

Fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, which is a clear, non-animal based gel. This is injected under the skin to bind water, and encourage collagen to regrow. The filler is injected through a fine sterile needle or cannula into the area where volume loss has occurred, which smooths wrinkle lines and volume loss.

As every client’s skin and required goals are unique, a bespoke consultation with Dr Natalia Hancock is essential prior to undergoing any advanced non-surgical treatment. During the consultation, Dr Hancock will discuss any problem areas, desired improvements, options available (including no treatment at all) and expected outcomes.

Should dermal fillers be agreed upon as the most suitable treatment, the skin will be thoroughly cleansed and the treatment area will be anaesthetised using either an appropriate topical anaesthetic (numbing cream) or a dental nerve block to ensure discomfort is completely minimal.

Once the treatment area is anaesthetised, the filler will be injected under the surface of the skin using an ultra-fine needle, before being gently massaged. The treatment itself usually takes around 30 to 40 minutes, with an additional 30 minutes allowed prior to treatment for the anaesthetic to take effect.

As the treatment area is numbed prior to treatment and the needle used to inject the dermal fillers is ultra-fine, most people find the treatment is only mildly uncomfortable. Many clients report barely feeling the injections, and any unpleasant sensation disappears very quickly.

Immediately after a dermal filler procedure, the treatment area may be slightly red and / or slightly swollen. However, normal activities may be resumed immediately. In fact, it is possible to have this treatment in a lunch break and return straight back to work.

Occasionally there will be mild bruising and swelling which can take up to 10 days to resolve naturally.

First, the skin is thoroughly cleansed with antiseptic.

Some areas may not need anaesthetic at all. However, if needed, topical anaesthetic is first applied and left to numb the skin for 20-30 minutes. A numbing injection can be given to numb the area further, although this is rarely required.

The dermal filler is then injected into the desired area using a very fine, sterile needle or cannula. After injection, the filler is gently massaged.

Results can be seen immediately after dermal filler treatments and generally last up to 12 months or longer.

Dermal fillers are effective in the treatment of the following areas:

Crow’s feet

Under eye bags

Tear troughs

Cheek augmentation

Nasolabial folds (nose to mouth Lines)

Peri-Oral lines (smokers’ lines)

Lip augmentation (enhancement of thin lips)

Smile lines

Marionette lines (mouth to chin Lines)

Chin enhancement

Jawline

Temples

Nose

Hyaluronic acid is a substance found naturally inside the human body, so a reaction to this substance is extremely rare.

Any side-effects are mostly related to the injection rather than the product. Side-effects can include possible localised bruising, swelling, redness, itching, pain and discolouration at the injection site. Such complications generally disappear within a few days. Thorough cleansing of the skin prior to treatment and careful placement of the injections by a skilled practitioner ensures these risks are as minimal as possible.

We will fully discuss aftercare with you, and make sure all of your questions have been answered. Many of us prefer to have things written down as a reminder, so you will also receive a copy of the advice to take away with you. Some examples include:

  • Avoid touching, massaging or rubbing the area for at least 6 hours after treatment unless asked to do so by the Doctor.
  • If you do experience any pain or symptoms you fell are unusual please contact the clinic without delay.
  • We recommend waiting 6 hours before touching the area or applying any make-up.
  • Avoid alcohol and strenuous exercise for at least 2 days after treatment.
  • Avoid laser treatments, skin peels and sunbeds for at least 14 days after treatment.

Your first step is a no-obligation consultation at Skintique Clinic. Your appointment will be booked with Dr Natalia Hancock.

After taking a full medical history, Dr Natalia Hancock will discuss the treatment and your expectations with you. You will also be provided with detailed information on the procedure and the likely outcomes. Should you wish to go ahead with the treatment after a cooling-off period, another appointment will be made with Dr Hancock.

On arrival for your treatment, you will be asked to check over your medical history form to confirm that nothing has changed. You will be then asked to complete a treatment consent form.

The procedure requires several tiny injections in the areas you would like improving. Pain is considered to be minimal and no anaesthesia is needed, though ice may be used to numb the area before and after your treatment. This is a simple and quick process lasting approximately 20 minutes, but no longer than 30 minutes. It involves no downtime, so there is no disruption to your lifestyle. You can resume normal activities straight after your treatment.

You will be invited back into the clinic for review two weeks after your procedure, as this is how long is required for the full effect. This is to ensure you are fully happy with your results. If required, adjustments can be made during this appointment

After your review, our team will arrange your next appointment in 12 months’ time.
