AlumierMD's Chemical PeeI Philosophy

AlumierMD offers light to medium depth peels known for their excellent results and safety profile. We believe in repeated treatments for progressive and gradual results to avoid side effects and downtime associated with deeper peels. AlumierMD peels are only performed by trained skin care professionals in a clinical setting to ensure that they are delivered safely and effectively.

Chemical peels work by deeply exfoliating the surface layers of the skin, forcing your body to quickly replenish it with new cells. When peels are performed regularly, the skin gets used to this process and begins to rejuvenate itself like younger skin. To be sure that the body doesn’t react to this exfoliation as it would to trauma, which can lead to pigment changes, exfoliation must be introduced gradually giving the skin time to adjust.

Pre-treatment products precondition the skin, accelerate results and minimise complication. Posttreatment products minimise complications, heal and soothe the skin and then maintain the results. Professional treatments enhance the results of home care products.

We have a range of treatments that vary in strength and offer effective solutions to a variety of skin concerns. During a Visia consultation with one of our team of experienced practitioners will recommend which treatment course is most suitable for you depending on your area or areas of concern. They will tailor a skin peel specifically to your skin type, condition and tone. For some of our peels a skin preparation regime is required. Please Also note skin types 4-6 will require additional preparation products which will be advised during consultation for our stronger peels.

There are a few reasons why going for a chemical peel might not be the perfect solution to your skin concerns. Your practitioner will go over your medical questionnaire in detail to make sure this treatment is safe for you.

A chemical peel is a procedure in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin to remove the top layers. The skin that grows back is smoother. With a light or medium peel, you may need to undergo the procedure more than once to get the desired results.

Chemical peels are used to treat wrinkles, discolored skin and scars — usually on the face. They can be done alone or combined with other cosmetic procedures. And they can be done at different depths, from light to deep. Deeper chemical peels offer more-dramatic results but also take longer to recover from.

The peel is applied with a brush.

A non-toxic chemical solution is applied to the skin surface with a light brush and absorbed, before releasing the active acid, which then works from within the skin. This treatment can be used without any problems on the delicate areas around the lips and eyes.

After a chemical peel of any depth, your skin will be red, tight, irritated or swollen. Follow your doctor’s directions for sun protection, cleansing, moisturizing and applying protective ointments to your skin. And avoid picking, rubbing or scratching your skin. It may take several months before your skin color returns to normal and you can see the full results of the pee

This very much depends on the type of peel used and the target depth. With AlumierMD peels we gradually build up the strength over several weeks for optimum results. This is also done to limit the amount of healing time which could be up to 14 days for the medical peels,

A chemical peel can cause various side effects, including:

Redness, scabbing and swelling. Normal healing from a chemical peel involves redness of the treated skin.

After a medium or deep chemical peel, redness might last for a few months.

Scarring. Rarely, a chemical peel can cause scarring — typically on the lower part of the face. Antibiotics and steroid medications can be used to soften the appearance of these scars.

Changes in skin color. A chemical peel can cause treated skin to become darker than normal (hyperpigmentation) or lighter than normal (hypopigmentation). Hyperpigmentation is more common after superficial peels, while hypopigmentation is more common after a deep peel. These problems are more common in people with skin of color and can sometimes be permanent.

Infection. A chemical peel can lead to a bacterial, fungal or viral infection, such as a flare-up of the herpes virus — the virus that causes cold sores.

Skin peels are best performed after several weeks of preparation particularly for our deeper peels and especially so if you are skin type 4-6. Pretreatment with skincare products prepares the skin for the peel and stops the peel burning and causing hyper pigmentation. The length of preparation recommended depends on your skin type and concerns.

When you and your skin are ready for a peel the area is cleansed thoroughly with a pretreatment antiseptic, the peel is applied and after acting it is removed and deactivated. Post procedure a good spf must be worn. We recommend our Alumier SPF’s.

Skin peels do feel itchy and may sting the skin on application. Ideally they are left on the skin for 5 minutes but you must tell your doctor if it feels too strong for you. Pre procedure skincare specifically recommended for your skin type and with the peel in mind should be used for best results.

Treatment areas

Treatment is a safe and effective way of refreshing and rejuvenating the skin as well as treating fine lines, texture, tone and wrinkles.

Any area of skin can be suitable for a peel from the face and back to the décolletage and neck. Arms and legs too, especially if there are scars and pigmentation problems.

Pre-treatment is essential in order to prevent the peel burning and causing damage to the skin. In some clients a good medical skin care regimen is better than a peel.

At Skintique Clinic we like to assess your skin thoroughly. Your journey will have started with a Visia consultation and we will use this amazing technology to track your skins progress. Before going ahead with a peel you are likely to be started on a pre peel treatment. Preparation of your skin is vital to allow desensitisation and ensure your skin peel does not damage your skin.

Most patients can undergo a peel without any side effects. The treated skin is virtually normal in appearance. On rare occasions a patient may experience mild sloughing, weeping or scabbing. Some redness is temporary and normal. Redness may be covered with makeup.

If scabs are picked, scarring may occur or areas of hypopigmentation and hyperpigmentation may result.

Side effects are minimal if any. Your skin may sting and look flushed or red.

Deeper peels cause crusting and peeling of the skin. This is normal and part of the peel process.

They are not suitable for irritated skin or if the skin has been laser resurface treatment within the last 6 weeks, if you are suffering from a viral infection or have used roaccutane in the last 6 months. Roaccutane thin’s the skin whilst drying out the oil in the skin and makes it more likely to be damaged.

It is essential to use a good quality SPF sun protection after skin peels.

Do not touch, rub or massage the area or apply makeup for at least 6 hours.

Your skin may sting or burn with some flushing or redness for 2-4 hours after a peel.

You must apply strong SPF (greater than SPF30) sun cream and can use a moisturizer, SPF is essential to avoid post procedure hyperpigmentation.

SPF is ESSENTIAL. We recommend using AlumierMD homecare if you are having AlumierMD peels.

For the next few days

It may feel tighter and may feel warm to touch; this may last for 2-4 days.

Eperdermolysis (whitening) and peeling may occur and could last up to 3 weeks. Depending on the peel strength and tolerance.

Do not put on normal make up until healed. Mineral make up may be applied.

Your skin specialist will recommend an Alumier MD homecare program for you to follow for best results.

It is advised to avoid sun, tanning and other cosmetic treatments and wait 2-4 weeks before fillers and injectable wrinkle treatments.

Treatment courses

Beautiful skin doesn’t happen overnight, and treatments take time to show results. A single chemical peel can provide the immediate effect of bright and radiant skin; however, more significant results in treating textural issues, fine lines, pigmentation and inflamed acne could take up to eight weeks.

A course of skin peels will give you the best results and we have specifically designed course protocols to maximise the results whatever your skin concern.

Using homecare products consistently and as directed to achieve optimal results. Just as you take time to exercise, you need to take time for your “daily skin care workout regime”.

Your first step is a no-obligation Visia Gen8 consultation at Skintique Clinic. Your appointment will be booked with one of our skin specialists.

After taking a full medical history, your skin specialist will discuss the treatment and your expectations with you. You will also be provided with detailed information on the procedure and the likely outcomes. Should you wish to go ahead with the treatment after a cooling-off period, a future appointment will be made for you.

On arrival for your treatment, you will be asked to check over your medical history form to confirm that nothing has changed. You will be then asked to complete a treatment consent form before we carry out the treatment. Depending on the peel and at what stage we are within the course protocol your treatment may last between 15-45 minutes. We will take, in addition to the Visia images, before and after photos for your medical file.

Your results will be reviewed at your next appointment. A further set of images on the Visia Gen8 will be required 4 weeks after the last of your course treatment or before you start your next course of stronger peels if this is part of the treatment plan.

After your treatment, our team will arrange your next appointment.
